She was born April 26, 1982, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Daniel Wayne and Vickie Lynn Linville (Brown). Dana is survived by her husband, Niklas Albert Wodrich, whom she married on June 18, 2005 and her beloved daughters, Cailin Marie (18) and Olivia Lynn (15).

In addition to Nik and her daughters, Dana is survived by her mother Vickie Linville; brother, Benjamin Linville and wife, Gena, of Shelbyville; nephews, Carson Linville and Kellen Linville; grandmother, Marlene (Tinsley) Linville of Morristown; Sister-in-Law Janet (Dan) Fild and brother-in-law Karl (Jennifer)  Wodrich; nieces Caroline (Ethan) Kasen, Anna Fild, Grace (Scott) Fryover, Stephanie Wodrich and nephews Christian Fild, Joshua Wodrich, Jacob Wodrich, and Arend Fild and two great nieces, Willow Fild and Louisa Kasen all of Grand Rapids, MI; along with a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; and grandparents, John Linville, Claron Brown, Betty Brown Short and George Short, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Lynne Wodrich.

In 2000, Dana graduated from Morristown High School.  Most of Dana’s working career was in the insurance business. She was currently an account manager for BHS Insurance of Grandville, Michigan.

Her biggest joy was serving the Lord. She attended Cornerstone Church in Caledonia, Michigan, where she and her daughter, Cailin, taught Sunday school to five and six-year olds.  Her great desire was to minister to combat veterans, of which her dad was one.  Dana had taken steps to learn more about that calling.

Dana was a devoted wife to her husband and mother to her beloved daughters. They were the loves and the joys of her life! Dana and Nik spent time together cooking great food, and sharing their love of sports, often watching the Colts, Lions, and Tigers and Michigan State games. She loved shopping with Cailin and relished watching her play volleyball and basketball over the years, and more recently playing varsity tennis. Dana was so proud of Cailin and her upcoming graduation from Thornapple Kellogg High School and was excited for her to begin her college career at Grand Valley State University. She spent many special hours with Olivia, homeschooling her and talking about horses and taking her to her horseback riding lessons. She also really just enjoyed relaxing and spending time at home with her family!

Dana and her mom loved college sports and they visited the Notre Dame stadium and Hinkle Fieldhouse to watch their favorite teams, the Fighting Irish and the Butler Bulldogs. They were blessed to be able to make many special memories on their mother-daughter trips.

She especially loved her brother, Ben and his family. She would almost always make a lasagna or a cherry pie to take to the Shelbyville Fire Department crew, that Ben was a part of.  Her nephews, Carson and Kellen, had a special place in her heart and she would try to make  it down to see them play whatever sport they were in at the time. She dearly loved her many Indiana relatives and enjoyed family gatherings, as often as she could make it down to the place that she always considered her home.

Dana was also a beloved sister-in-law to Janet, and devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews in Michigan. She strived to attend as many of their activities as she could! She and “the nieces” enjoyed many “girls days out” getting nails done and doing lunch together! Dana adored her most recent role as Great Aunt to her new great nieces and took every chance she could to get in baby snuggles with them! She had a huge heart and always offered to help everyone in their time of need! Dana was so greatly cherished and loved by her Michigan family!

Dana had the biggest and kindest heart and blessed all who crossed her path. There aren’t enough words to say about Dana and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carson Michael Hughes, 18, of Osgood

A famous photographer once said, “Taking pictures is savoring life intensely every hundredth of a second.” Carson Hughes’s ability to capture his love of life through his actions and artwork was visible every second of his short, but amazingly inspirational life.

Carson Michael Hughes, 18, of Osgood, began making this world a brighter place on February 2, 2006. He was born in Batesville, Indiana to Jason and Mandy (Hoffman) Hughes.

From the start, he was simply a joy.  He had an infectious smile that would light up a room.  He was sweet, kind and considerate. He loved his family, friends and God. As his high school principal stated, “Carson was a kid that everyone loved and simply enjoyed being around.” His sentiments were felt by everyone within the community, as Carson truly was a person that exemplified love and character.

In school, Carson took advantage of many opportunities and, not surprisingly, excelled given his attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile.  He was a Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Eagle in soccer, baseball, and basketball.  He was a player that coaches desired on their team, as he led by example and dedication.

In addition, he was an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society. Just recently he was named Academic All State Honorable Mention for basketball. He planned to attend Purdue University and study Industrial Design.  His teachers confidently knew he would achieve his goal because he was smart and extremely driven.

He also had a strong faith in God and attended the One Purpose Church in Batesville, where he was in charge of the audio / visual technology team.

Regardless of his amazing character and various athletic and academic achievements, Carson’s real mark on the world was through his photography.

From an early age, Carson paid close attention to detail. He could find beauty in anything.  However, he was most fascinated by the great outdoors and all of God’s living creatures.  He could not wait to rise before the sun and travel to his second home, the Versailles State Park, to catch a glimpse of an otter grappling a small fish for breakfast.

Over fall break, he and his dad traveled to Cataloochee Valley in North Carolina where they slept in the back of a truck for four days just so he could be there to witness and capture every motion the elk made within the open field.

Last year, he and his parents hiked the steep, narrow trail of Mount Storm King, located within Olympic National Park in Washington state, to get the “perfect” shot of the sun glimmering on Crescent Lake.

To say the least, Carson’s passion for nature and photography was immeasurable; so much so, that professionals in the field took notice and encouraged him to go semi-professional.  With that, he began Carson Hughes Photography in 2023.

Through his photography business, he was able to travel and take all kinds of amazing photos thanks to sponsorships from national companies. His pictures were highlighted in various trade magazines such as the debut release of 812 The Magazine of Southern Indiana.  He also won awards for his work, such as being selected as the 2023 Indiana State Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Category winner for his photo, “Wild Connections”, which is currently on display in the Lt. Governor’s business offices.  He additionally received the 2023 Oak Heritage Conservancy award for one his photos. Locally, he won several awards through 4-H and received the “Best in Show” youth division at the 2023 Pumpkin Show.  One professional photographer stated, “His skill and composition far surpassed his age and training, he simply was a gifted artist.” Yet despite the accolades, he was never one to boast. He just wanted everyone to enjoy his photos and appreciate nature as much as he did.

As he posted, one month ago, “A leucistic bald eagle!! I will never get over this encounter I was blessed to have! This is one of the most beautiful birds I have ever seen not only for its rarity but just the majestic feel this bird brings that no other bird can.  I hope you guys like the photo I got of this magical encounter.”

Carson’s life was cut way too short, but his time on earth was most impactful.  He made each and every second count, no matter what he was doing.  And, he took something he loved and shared it with all of us; whereas for a moment, while gazing at the wonderment of his photos, we got to experience just how breathtakingly beautiful the world can be. Unfortunately, this is something that many of us lose perspective of as we age.

Although this has been such a tragic loss for his family, friends and community at large, perhaps it is God’s way of telling us to live a more purposeful life, just as Carson did. Find your passion, pay attention to the small details, try to find the beauty in everyone and everything you encounter and share your enlightenment with others.  Let Carson’s life and the magnificent works of art he left behind, be your inspiration.

Carson is survived by his parents Jason and Mandy Hughes, brother Corey, girlfriend Kelsey Borgman (daughter of Josh and Renee Borgman), grandparents Ted and Marlene Hughes and Kim Hoffman, uncles; Greg Wilhoit, Rick Wilhoit, Steve (Tammy) Wilhoit, and Kevin Hoffman, aunt Julie  Wilhoit (Jen Mayer), and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandma Kim Hoffman and uncle Michael Wilhoit.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 25, 2024 from 12 pm.-5 pm. at the Jac-Cen-Del High School Gym.

Funeral services will be held at 5 pm. also in the gymnasium.

A memorial fund is being established in memory of Carson Hughes.  His artwork will be available for purchase throughout the visitation with all profits going to the fund. (details will be provided).

Donald E. Passwater

Donald E. Passwater was one heck of a man, the epitome of kindness, patience and love, he passed on to his Heavenly Father on February 27, 2024.

Born in Huntington, Indiana on January 23, 1939, he was the youngest child of George W Passwater and Edith (Jordan) Passwater.  As the youngest, his siblings would tell you he was the most spoiled of the Passwater kids, a claim he discounted, but secretly agreed with.

Growing up in Huntington, Don was renowned for his fun spirit, hard work and even a bit of orneriness.  In high school, he and his friends would pile into a car and yell ‘the world is on fire’ while cruising down the brick laden streets of his hometown.  His parents were wise to his shenanigans, and placed a governor on their car to ensure there would be no speeding by any of the Passwater boys.  Don met the love of his life, Judith Burman, when he was 15 and she was 14.  He was the football player and she the cheerleader.  They enjoyed many dances at Huntington High School and The Swing Inn and would go to Big Boy for special occasions.  It was during this time Judie learned Don was the purveyor of quality ketchup, and a good tenderloin sandwich.  He worked at Nick’s Kitchen in Huntington for many years and was taught the art of proper tenderloin preparation.  Upon graduation from high school in 1957, Don joined the Indiana National Guard. Don and Judie married on January 24, 1958, and lived their early years in Huntington.  They welcomed two children during this time, Lori and Chris.

In the early 60s, the family moved to Columbus, Indiana.  They welcomed a son, Dave, into the family.  Judie was certain their family was complete.  However, a move to Kentucky brought about big family changes, and their daughter, Rachael was born.  While in Kentucky, Don was named a Kentucky Colonel.

Through all their life changes, one thing never wavered, Don’s faith in Jesus and the Lord above.  He was truly a student of the Bible and wanted to help others understand its value and importance.  As Don and Judie moved to Fort Wayne in 1968, then put down roots in Shelbyville in 1974, they both would seek churches to call home in each town. Lewis Creek Baptist Church would be his church home for the next 49 years.  Here, he would be deacon, moderator, trustee, Sunday school teacher and the best giver of hugs anyone could ask for.  He and Judie cherished the many friends that soon became more like family.  Don was also a Gideon, preaching the word of God to many churches throughout Indiana, and was on the Shelby County Youth Shelter board for many years.  He retired from G.E./Wellman after 23 years of service.  He then embarked on a journey working with Glenn George Funeral Homes helping many families navigate through their toughest times.

A fervent Indiana University fan, Don enjoyed I.U. Basketball and wouldn’t miss a game.  He also rooted for the Cincinnati Reds, Shelbyville Golden Bears - and became a huge fan and supporter of the Triton Central Marching Tigers and Winter Guard.  Jaunting around the state for the Marching Tiger performances brought opportunities of finding a good piece of pie.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Judie.  He is also survived by son, David Passwater; daughter Rachael Ackley and husband Travis; grandson Uriah Meredith and his wife Shannon; grandson Taylor Smith and his wife Courtney; granddaughter Audrey Schlatter and husband Kaleb; grandson Alex Passwater; granddaughter Samantha Ackley; greatgrandchildren Nathan Smith, Hayden Meredith, Kynzie, Chandler and Jenna Smith, Lily Passwater and Holli Schlatter;  brother Ernie Passwater along with many nieces and nephews and an extended loving family.   He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Webb; son, Chris Passwater; grandson Christopher Smith; parents; brothers Bill Passwater and Jim Passwater; and sisters Lurabelle Rowell and Mary Bryant.

He was the best son, father, grandfather, uncle anyone could ask for, and he always found the best in every situation and loved unconditionally.  He would want everyone to know Jesus - and find peach and comfort in the promise of renewed life once we leave our earthly home.

One of his favorite sayings - “Into each life must come a little sunshine - this is your ray for the day”.  Find those people who bring a ray of sunshine into your life and cherish them.

Visitation will be held at the Glenn E George and Son Funeral Home 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, In. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm at the Funeral Home, with burial in Lewis Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
